Freddie Gray Memorial Flier

Activism

2015

In April 2015, residents of Baltimore took to the streets to protest the killing of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old Black man who suffered a fatal spinal injury while in police custody. The events in Baltimore marked a critical moment in the emerging Black Lives Matter movement and sparked nationwide demonstrations against racial profiling and police violence. Baltimore City Councilwoman Sharon Green Middleton, who spoke during a rally to demand justice for Freddie Gray, donated this memorial flier and other items to the museum to help curators document protest activities in Baltimore and the Black Lives Matter movement.
