This mixed media piece by artist Jefferson Pinder (b. 1970) is constructed of repurposed lumber gathered from President Obama’s 2009 inaugural platform and is shaped to resemble the NASA Mercury spacecraft. In Pinder’s multi-layered vision, music is also important – “Space is the Place” by Sun Ra and “Living in the City” by Stevie Wonder play in a continuous loop.
