Faith Ringgold is best known for her textile works and storytelling quilts. But many of her paintings, especially in the 1960s, featured the American flag. For Ringgold, the flag was a complicated symbol representing both freedom and freedom denied. In this video, she discusses her use of the American flag in her art.
