Prairie View A&M’s extension program was one of the first in Texas.
Prairie View Normal and Industrial College (now Prairie View A&M University) launched its Cooperative Extension Program in 1914. The program provided agricultural, home economics, and mechanical services to people in nearby counties. Today, agents and faculty in the program (now called PVAMU Extension) provide vocational and industrial resources.
The “Portal to Texas History” features photographs documenting the program’s activities. Many are images of the annual Food and Livestock Show at Rosewood Park in Austin. In this photo, young men display calves they raised.
