Prairie View A&M’s Industrial Award
Education
ca. 1950
Founded in 1876, Prairie View A&M is one of the oldest colleges in Texas.
By the early 20th century, many Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) provided African Americans with industrial education and vocational training—shoemaking, welding, bookbinding, carpentry, bricklaying, and more.
In the 1950s, Prairie View A&M University received recognition for its success in preparing African American students to be skilled laborers and entrepreneurs. This Industrial Education Award highlights the university’s longstanding commitment to supporting students both inside and outside the classroom.
