Temple #7 members recorded Malcolm X’s speeches on this tape recorder.
Malcolm X (1925–1965) was an activist and Muslim minister known for his speeches promoting Black liberation, self-determination, and self-defense. Before leaving the Nation of Islam (NOI) in 1964, Malcolm X was the chief minister at NOI Temple #7 in Harlem, New York. He held weekly meetings discussing challenges facing Black communities and the history of the African diaspora.
This Wollensak tape recorder was used to record many of Malcolm X’s sermons and lectures, as well as those from other ministers at Temple #7.
