Ghana's “Year of Return”

In his first draft of the Emancipation Proclamation, President Lincoln encouraged African Americans to emigrate to Africa. Historically, African Americans have regularly debated whether to manifest their freedom beyond the U.S. shores. In recent years, many Black Americans have self-emigrated to Africa in response to U.S. racism and campaigns like Ghana’s 2019 “The Year of Return,” which welcomed them home.
