A curator is speaking about a Fannie Criss Payne's dress design.

Fannie Criss Payne’s story began in Richmond, Virginia, and traveled all the way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In the early 20th century, Criss was a successful dressmaker in Richmond who later moved to New York City. There, she served wealthy white clients and Black women like Maggie L. Walker, Madam C. J. Walker, and A'Lelia Bundles. Criss’ impact was celebrated at the 2022 Met Gala when actress Regina King curated a display of Criss’ gowns.
